HealthInsurance – Important Points to Note
-
Pre-existing disease
When we talk about HealthInsurance, one term that cannot be avoid is ‘Pre-exisiting disease’. Pre-exisiting disease is defined as any condition or ailment for which you had signs or symptoms and/or recieved medical treatment within 48 months of the policy with the insurance firm. This means that a policy will cover expenses incurrered on pre-exisiting diseases only from the 5th policy year, provided their hasnt been any claim in the first four years.
An ailment for which a claim has been made does not become a pre-existent disease if there is no break in the term of the insurance policy and is renewed within the stipulated period.
-
Waiting Period
Typically, when ever you purchase a healthinsurance there is a waiting period of 30 days, during which no claims from the insured are entertained by the insurer.

|
Medical Insurance Claims
You can claim medical expenses incurred 30 days before and 60-90 days after hospitalisation, provided these are related to the ailment/accident for which you were hospitalised. There is no limit to the number of claims in a year, but the amount that you can claim annually is limited to the sum insured.
